Holland America Line extends flexible booking policy through September

As conditions around the world continue to fluctuate due to COVID-19 and other factors, traveler confidence could be boosted. The continuation of flexible change and cancellation policies in the age of the pandemic is one way for companies to offer potential vacationers that all-important peace of mind.

With this realization, Holland America Line (HAL) has just announced the extension of its Worry-Free Promise on cruises throughout the summer of 2022. As detailed on HAL’s website, this policy provides “a complete flexibility to change your plans, cruise protection before and during your trip, and peace of mind with enhanced health and safety protocols on board and ashore.

As part of the Worry-Free Promise, the cruise line’s flexible cancellation plan has been extended to cover all bookings made by May 31 on itineraries departing through September 30, 2022. The policy allows guests to cancel or change their reservations up to 30 days prior to their embarkation date and receive a future cruise credit equal to the regular non-refundable cancellation fee.

Guests who need to cancel or change their trip within 30 days of their scheduled departure, and up to their actual departure date, may also receive future cruise credit if they or someone in their immediate travel party tests positive for COVID-19.

“We want our customers to plan their summer vacations with confidence,” said Beth Bodensteiner, senior vice president and chief commercial officer of Holland America Line. “By extending the date by which our customers must book their cruise under our Worry-Free Promise, it will allow them to take advantage of great limited-time special offers with the peace of mind that, should they change their plans, they can always cruise at a later date.

Additionally, final payments on European 2022 cruise bookings made on or after March 15 will now be due in 60 days, instead of 75 or 90, Holland America Line said in a press release.

Customers who want to be reassured with the ability to cancel or change their plans at any time can also purchase a Cancellation Protection Program package on new or existing bookings (provided the plan is purchased before the date at which cancellation charges begin to accrue).

Guests purchasing the Standard plan can cancel for any reason up to 24 hours before their cruise departs, while those purchasing the Platinum can cancel up until the time of departure. With their protection plans, customers who change or cancel receive 80-90% refunds on eligible amounts paid.
