No online reservations available for Covid testing in Westmeath

It appears demand for Covid-19 testing in Westmeath remains very high, with no online appointment for a test currently available in Athlone or Mullingar on the HSE website.

Ahead of Christmas, a spokesperson for HSE said club Athlone GAA’s pop-up testing center will remain open every day during the Christmas and New Years period, with the exception of Christmas Day.

The Athlone Center has scheduled opening hours of 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday this week and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, but self-referral appointment slots on the HSE website have been scarce.

One Westmeath Independent reader contacted us to tell us that they had tried to book a test since Christmas Eve but were unable to do so.

We have visited the HSE portal for test bookings several times during the day today (Monday) and did not find any slots available to book in Athlone or Mullingar at any time.

When there is no online test appointment available, it may be possible to get an appointment by getting a referral from a GP.

On Christmas Day, 13,765 cases of Covid-19 were recorded in Ireland, which was the highest single-day figure since the start of the pandemic.
