West Indies fast bowler Jayden Seales has been penalized by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for violating the code of conduct during the first Test match against Australia in Barbados.
The ICC has fined Seales 15 percent of his match fee due to an incident that occurred after he dismissed Australian captain Pat Cummins at Kensington Oval. Following the dismissal, Seales made a gesture directed towards the Australian dressing room.
The ICC ruled that Seales's actions violated Article 2.5 of their Code of Conduct. This article specifically addresses the use of gestures or actions during an international match that could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter who has just been dismissed.
Seales addressed the incident, stating it was "more a bit of frustration" and that there "wasn't really anything in it."
In addition to the fine, Seales has also received one demerit point for the offense. This marks his second offense within a 24-month period, bringing his total to two demerit points.
Despite the penalty, Seales and the West Indies bowling attack demonstrated a strong performance on the second day of the Test match against Australia.
The hosts secured a narrow 10-run lead in the first innings, bolstered by a crucial 67-run partnership for the sixth wicket between Shai Hope, who scored 48, and captain Roston Chase, who contributed 44.
Australia's second innings began tentatively, with the team reaching 92 for 4 wickets, giving them an overall lead of 82 runs. Seales claimed his sixth wicket of the match by bowling out Josh Inglis for 12.
Heading into day three, the match remains closely contested. Travis Head (13) and Beau Webster (19) are set to resume batting for Australia.
