India U-19 wicketkeeper-batter Harvansh Singh Pangalia shared how he was struggling at 13 off 23 balls before something clicked — and went on to score a blistering 103 off 52 deliveries against England U-19 in a warm-up match. The 18-year-old is a Marvel fan, and his life motto revolves around a famous dialogue from Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man movie.

India's U-19 wicketkeeper, Harvansh Singh, finds motivation in an unlikely place: a line from the Spider-Man movie. The young cricketer's journey is fueled by a desire to "try to do better," a mantra that resonates deeply with him.

Harvansh Singh credits his family for his success

Harvansh, a self-confessed Marvel fan, draws inspiration from a scene in Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man 2. The dialogue, where Peter Parker responds to criticism with "Trying to do better," has become a personal motto. "There's something about that scene, that dialogue," Harvansh told TimesofIndia.com. "The answer gives me goosebumps."

A Century of Inspiration

This mantra was evident in a recent practice match against Young Lions Invitational XI, where the 18-year-old showcased his explosive batting. Coming in with the score at 251/7, he smashed a blistering 100 off just 52 balls, including nine sixes, propelling India to a formidable 442/9.

Humble Beginnings in Gandhidham

Harvansh's journey began in Gandhidham, a small town in Gujarat. Inspired by his father and uncle, both wicketkeepers themselves, he pursued his cricketing dream. While his father now works as a truck driver in Canada, Harvansh remains in India with his mother, who he says has made immense sacrifices for his career.

"Whenever I step out to bat, I see the faces of my mother and father," he shares. "They have sacrificed so much for me." He is determined to reunite his parents, fueled by an unwavering belief in his abilities.

Inspired by Legends: Yuvraj Singh and Kobe Bryant

Harvansh admires Yuvraj Singh's resilience and determination in winning the World Cup while battling cancer. He also draws inspiration from the late Kobe Bryant's "Mamba Mentality," admiring his unparalleled work ethic.

The Test of Character

Harvansh believes that mentality and self-belief are crucial for success at the highest level. He aspires to play Test cricket for India, echoing Virat Kohli's sentiment that Test cricket truly tests a player's character. "Test ka naam test hai because it tests your character," he says. "That's the ultimate cricket."

While his teammates are securing IPL deals, Harvansh remains focused on his own path. "Mera bhi time aayega (My time will come as well)," he asserts confidently.

India U19 will face England U19 in the first Youth ODI at Hove on Friday.
