The Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025 season has witnessed the emergence of Shubham Ranjane, an all-rounder for the Texas Super Kings (TSK), whose impactful performances have resonated even with international stars.
Ranjane's presence on the field is immediately noticeable. He exudes confidence and energy, evident in his every move, whether batting, bowling, or fielding. This "X-factor" hasn't gone unnoticed, particularly by his former Mumbai teammate and current Indian T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav.
Yadav took to Instagram to praise Ranjane's crucial innings of 70 off 45 balls, acknowledging the all-rounder's inherent ability to influence the game. He expressed nostalgia for Ranjane's impactful presence and predicted greater achievements for him.
Ranjane's approach to cricket is characterized by intense dedication and a desire to dominate. "Even if I play gully cricket it is all intense. Whichever game I play, it is all about giving 200%. Whatever the situation, I should be there and get my team to win," he stated. He seeks to be a game-changer, always ready to take on the responsibility of finishing a match.
This mindset was evident in 2019 when, after playing a Times Shield game, he trialed for Rajasthan Royals. Tasked with chasing 60 runs with Shimron Hetmyer against bowlers like Oshane Thomas and Keemo Paul, Ranjane scored 52 of those runs, securing victory with balls to spare. This display of brilliance rekindled the "X-factor" that Yadav fondly remembers.
Despite his talent, Ranjane faced a setback when released by the Seattle Orcas before the domestic draft. However, this proved to be a blessing in disguise, as the Texas Super Kings quickly recognized his potential and made him their number one pick, offering him a significant contract of $80,000.
Ranjane emphasizes the clarity and support he received from the TSK management. "I was given a lot of clarity from day one on what my role was going to be. I never once got an impression I'd be a passenger on the squad. I was always made to feel like an integral part of the unit. They gave me confidence and things started falling into place."
Having established himself as a prominent figure in domestic tournaments like the USPL, Ranjane now aims for a spot on the USA national team. He hopes to fill the need for a batting all-rounder with seam-up capabilities, a role the team currently lacks. With his variations in bowling and powerful hitting, he could be a valuable asset for the USA, especially in the upcoming T20 World Cup. And, of course, there's that undeniable "X-factor" that Suryakumar Yadav so admires.
